The plusses in domain names related to sports is that they are - most of the time – generic: the same word is used worldwide.
Launching a Top-Level Domain name, or domain name extension, with ICANN in 2012 offers better ways to reach and target a specific public like the Rugby people on Internet.
2013 will be a great year for the online rugby industry with domain names dedicated FOR rugby.
“.SURF” and “.SPORT” projects will be launched to allow domain names registrations such as www.longboard.SURF and www.brand.SPORT web addresses (or URLs).
There are several applications for the .RUGBY Top-Level Domain to be submitted and one applicant only will be chosen by ICANN to manage the registry for these domain names.
The application submission period has opened at 00:01 UTC January 2012 and will close at 23:59 UTC 12 April 2012. The .RUGBY application will then be made public and will enter into its validation process.
